You have spent your life taking care of your kids, your parents, your bills and finances. The toll it has taken on your body and mind has finally shown. You are not young anymore — and your body is asking for something back. The occasional pain has set in. It is time to take care of yourself.
Isn’t walking enough?
Most people start with walking. It's free, convenient and it's a good start — but it's an incomplete one. Fitness is a combination of endurance, strength and mobility. Walking, Zumba and cycling build your endurance and mobility, but they do not build your strength. And that is a big gap.

I will look silly going to the gym. Won’t I?
Everyone at the gym is too preoccupied with their own workout to notice you. That embarrassment only exists in your own mind. The gym has lighter weights and those are meant for beginners — meant for you. You will have 1000 excuses not to do something and one reason to do it. Pick the reason.
If gyms don't fit your lifestyle, you can train at home. All you need is a yoga mat, a set of starter dumbbells and some resistance bands.
What about Sports?
Yes, sports are a great addition. Cricket, football and badminton will improve your endurance and keep you active. But without a strength base, your injury risk is higher than you think. Strength training isn't a replacement for sport — it's what makes you better at it.

Where do I start?
Here's what actually moves the needle:
-
Mini bands are a great way to work your joints without injury. The workout looks simple but it will get you sweating.
-
Dumbbells and kettlebells build strength in both your upper and lower body.
-
Increase your water intake — it reduces muscle soreness and aids recovery.
-
Prioritise protein and sleep. Your body repairs itself outside the gym, not inside it.
-
Be consistent. Pick a time, protect it and show up.

It is time to care for yourself the way you have always cared for everyone around you. Every journey starts with a single step — this is yours.
