Most BMX bikes come with 20″ wheels, which suit riders aged about 9 to adult. For younger kids (4–8 yrs), 16″ or 18″ models are better—offering a safer fit and easier handling.
Race BMX bikes are lightweight, nimble, and built for speed on packed dirt tracks. Freestyle bikes, used in parks and street riding, are stronger, with beefier frames and pegs for tricks. Choose based on how and where you ride.
Chromoly steel frames are preferred for freestyle—they're strong, light, and can handle tricks and impacts. Basic steel frames work fine for casual riding and commuting but aren’t as light or durable with heavy use.
BMX bikes are designed for short bursts, tricks, and park/street riding, not long-distance commuting. The single gear, compact frame, and small wheels make them less efficient for daily rides beyond 2–3 km.
Check tire pressure, brake function, chain tension, and wheel alignment weekly if you're riding frequently. Heavier use—especially in sand or dirt—calls for monthly cleaning and lubrication.
Always wear a certified skate or BMX helmet. For jump parks or street tricks, use knee/shin guards and full-finger gloves to reduce impact injuries and improve grip.
